Hi, I also have both eczema and asthma and know just how awful it is. I also know how awful it is for the parents of children with these health problems. I am turning 30 this month and my mum still often takes both myself and my brother (who is 27 and also an asthma sufferer) to hospital, and the look of panic and worry on her face says it all. I sometimes have issues with doctors and medical professionals not taking it seriously enough though. With my last very serious asthma attack I was seen by 2 GPs that sent me home, I then thought I must be overreacting but as it got no better, in the end I made an appointment to see the out of hours GP service at my local hospital. I took myself to the hospital (worried that calling an ambulance would be seen as wasting peoples time). When I was finally seen I was put on oxygen and given a severe telling off for not seeking medical help sooner!!!!! Sad to say this wasn't the first time I have received such dismissive reactions to something so life threatening. I have also taught in schools, and think that all teachers should be more First Aid aware. I have often been shocked by how unsure and incapable teachers are with regards to students health. I applied to be an On Call First Aider at one school, but was told that there were 'enough staff already signed up'. I then witnessed countless First Aid instances where staff that were present with a sick child were told not to assist, just to send an email to all staff for a First Aider to come. -This would often take over 10 minutes. -it was absolutely infuriating and ludicrous.

Hi, I read your story in Pick Me Up this week and just wanted to let you know how inspired I am. I'm 20 with severe asthma and am currently in hospital on a 2 week stint. Laura was an inspiration to many and continues to be even now, and reading her story has given me something to smile about. All my love, and you're not alone.
